Good Morning Alabama:

I am Miranda Joseph. I am a wife, a mother, a board certified internal auditor, and your candidate for State Auditor on November 4th. I am asking for your vote and support on November 4, 2014.

Alabama needs an auditor who has been certified and trained by our own Alabama schools and professional boards. Alabama needs an auditor who is not new to the demands of the State Auditor’s office. Alabama needs the knowledge and skills that come with experience. Experience Matters! I am the only candidate who is Certified in Internal Auditing (CIA) and Certified in Risk Management (CRMA) with years of experience.

Would you want a skilled and well-trained doctor to operate on you? Would you want a knowledgeable attorney to help you with a case? If you answered yes to the questions, wouldn’t you want a certified auditor in the state auditor’s office??

For the first quarter of 2014, the Auditor’s office reported several items either lost or stolen. It's a good accounting of the losses, but with no explanation of how the Department of Rehabilitation Services managed to lose (and this is not a complete list):

  • 1 ice machine
  • 1 air conditioner
  • 6 microwaves
  • 16 vending machines
  • 4 coin sorters

Other items stolen from the department include a refrigerator and pool table. The Board of Medical Examiners reported a stolen pistol, the Alabama Tourism Department lost a fax machine, and the Historical Commission misplaced a display case.

The original cost of items lost, stolen, or destroyed during the first quarter was over $134,000.  Alabama needs an independent state auditor and needs one who's trained to do the job and that is why I am asking you to stand with me as I seek the State Auditor’s office.

Additionally, one of the most important duties of the State Auditor’s office is the appointment of one of the three members of the Boards of Registrars in 66 of Alabama's 67 counties. This affects the ability of everyone to have access to the ballot box thus ensuring everyone’s ability to participate in the voting process. I will only appoint qualified individuals who have the work experience and the desire to better the voter registration system in our state. This is deeply important because it is the gateway to democracy in our state.

Our State is facing tough economic times. Our families are struggling and working hard to make ends meet. Like you, I understand what it means to go over family finances to make every dollar count. It begins with taking responsibility for what is spent and making sure there is accountability for every dollar. I believe that Montgomery should do the same.

My goal is to take our family values to Montgomery to ensure that we have an open and honest government. Just as we sit at our kitchen tables to save and watch our pennies, our government should do the same with our tax dollars. Government should be fair and accountable and I have the experience we need to make sure we have this in Alabama.

We do not have time for on the job training. We do not have time to allow billions of taxpayer dollars to go unaccounted for. In these tough economic times we do not have time. Alabama does not have time.

The day has come for us to unite. The ties that bind us have grown longer and stronger. We will make a difference in Alabama. That is my most honest and dearest belief. So I write to you to stand with me as we pick up the journey and seek the office of the State Auditor. Let us bring a new morning to Alabama so that we can once again be that shining city on the hill.

Thank you,

Miranda K. Joseph

To All Women of Alabama... I Am You!

In 1848, it was declared “that all men and women are created equal, and that they are endowed by their
creator with certain inalienable rights, and that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” What this meant, among other things, was that they believed women should have the right to vote.

Until 1920, only men had the privilege of voting for our democracy.  It took nearly a hundred years for activists to win the vote for millions of American women to exercise their right to vote for the first time. It was not easy, but for the first time… like men, women deserved the right and
responsibilities of citizenship. I don’t want to take one election for granted.  Since then, women have come a long way… gained independence and a new way of thinking.

I want to talk to you about us… WOMEN!  Because you represent them, just as I want to represent you.

I “AM” YOU!

Raised by a single mother struggling to make ends meet and nurture a family of strong values.

I am you!  The fatherless child.

Struggling to be educated; I put myself through school striving for a better life in my adulthood.

I am you!  An educated young woman.

As an African American, I have faced challenges and overcame diversity.

I am you!  A woman of color.

As a woman of faith leaning not unto my own understanding; I seek wisdom for virtue.

I am you!  A Christian woman.

From high school to college and an education in Accounting; I chose a career path.

I am you!  A Career woman.

Not choosing where I found love; I married an attorney of the United States Army.

I am you!  A military wife.

Having a blessing bestowed upon me; I chose life and brought forth a son.

I am you!  A mother.

Because I resonate with you; your situation and can empathize with your circumstance, I want to assure you that I am not only you… but will also represent you well in the State Auditor’s Office.

I am an experienced and certified Auditor with a clean record that has traveled this state, campaigning for this
position.  Why?  Because I want to give back to all of you who stood for me.

When I was hungry, you made sure my mother fed me.

When I was in school, you taught me well.

When I was discouraged, you shared your faith.

When I experienced racism, you stood beside me.

When I married and mothered, you led by example.

And when I was ready to give back, you believed in me and I ran for State Auditor.

Not once… but twice… because YOU are strong, and I AM YOU!

Women of Alabama, I need you to continue to believe
in me, in us… and what being a Proverbs 31 woman is all about.  She’s a full time woman… she is a product of
the God that lives within her. She knows where she places her hope.

It’s by his grace and his guidance that I have been able to experience so much and find compassion in so many and because of all the Titus 2 women in my life that have influenced my path… I am once again looking to you for the encouragement to pursue this endeavor.

Until 1920; women have struggled to have their place in society and secure the rights of equality. If you will entrust in me the faith to believe that my motives are pure and my intentions are good… we as women, will continue to shape this world and improve our state one woman at a

And today, it is my time to take a stand for all those women before me that have faced adversity and fought for
women like us to be blessed abundantly over the last 94 years.

I am asking you… all of you women of Alabama to stand beside me on November 4th and place your trust in me that I will hold the State Auditor’s Office to a higher standard; and be a good steward of our taxpayer’s property… this is my vow to you and the citizens of Alabama, because EXPERIENCE DOES MATTER!

Thank you,

Miranda K. Joseph
